Playter Estates

Located between Broadview Ave and Jackman Ave, north of Danforth Road and south of Fulton Ave is the fabulous Playter Estates neighbourhood. This neighbourhood was built on land owned by George Henry Playter that was granted to him by Lieutenant Governor Simcoe in the late 1790's. The neighbourhood was established back in the year 1912 when the land that was owned previously by George Henry Playter was subdivided into what is now know as the Playter Estate neighbourhood. In 1870 George's great grandson John built the farmhouse at 28 Playter Crescent which is now known as the Playter Mansion. Many of the streets in this neighbourhoood were named after the wives and relatives of the Playter family.

Many of the homes built in this neighbourhood are spectacular 10 to 15 rooms homes. You will see various styles of homes in this district ranging from the Tudor style to Victorian and Edwardian style homes. These grand homes are reminisent of the homes in Rosedale, just across the valley, but of course are much more affordable.

This is an exclusive neighbourhood of only eight streets. Some people just consider it just part of "The Danforth". Many of the homes in this neighbourhood are detached but as you look around this district you will also see some semi detached 2 and 3 storey homes. The huge detached mansions can sell for as much as 2 million dollars but you may also find a cute semi in this pocket for closer to $600,000. As you step outside this pocket, the prices will drop a bit....this is an exclusive upper middle class neighbourhood where many professionals want to live here and raise their familes. People don't mind paying the price to live here...virtually only minutes to downtown, this area is a prime example of location , location, location...

The shops along Danforth Avenue offer so many entertainment, dining and shopping options, you may never need to leave the neighbourhood.

The Danforth Music Hall has been providing excellent music and shows for many years in this neighbourhood.

Jackman Avenue Junior Public School located at 79 Jackman Avenue is a very popular local school with very high test scores and this attracts many professionals and families.

Broadview subway station is at the corner of Broadview and Danforth Aves and offers quick access to other parts of the city.

Chester Subway Station is just one block east of the Playter Estates boundary
